By labeling people as lesser than, unfit or mentally ill, psychiatrists created an environment in the United States and in Germany which led to one of the darkest moments in human history.”

— Diane Stein, President CCHR Florida

CLEARWATER, FL, USA, January 30, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) of Florida, a nonprofit mental health watchdog organization dedicated to eradicating psychiatric abuses, hosted an event to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Church of Scientology in Tampa, Florida.

Designated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day by the United Nations General Assembly, January 27th marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau when over 7,000 prisoners were freed and the slave camp which had detained over 1.3 million prisoners, was finally shut down.

International Israeli singer Ms. Judy Bechar opened the event with a performance of a special song in memory of the victims of this horrific period in history before recounting a story from her childhood, telling of how a concentration camp survivor had shared her personal story of loss and tragedy with her. It was at that moment that Ms. Bechar pledged to be the voice for those suffering human rights abuse.

“When I heard all that this woman had lost, her parents, her siblings, everything, I couldn’t breathe,” said Bechar. “But then I realized she had won by surviving and it was then that I knew that I had to be the voice for those people who suffer human rights abuses.”

CCHR hosted the event for the purpose of raising social consciousness by educating people on the inhumanity of the Holocaust and other human rights violations in order to ensure future generations never forget.

While most people are aware of the murder of millions of Jews during World War II, many have no idea that before the Nazi regime even came to power German psychiatrists proposed the extermination of mental health patients and developed processes and systems to murder patients by the thousands with euthanasia as well as eugenically sterilizing patients. Organized psychiatry implemented 6 psychiatric facilities that aimed and succeeded in the killing of 100,000 German mental patients. These psychiatric facilities provided the training, personnel, and technologies to create the mass extermination camps for the Holocaust. [1]

“By labeling people as less than, unfit or mentally ill, psychiatrists created an environment in the United States and in Germany which led to one of the darkest moments in human history,” said the president of the Florida chapter of CCHR, Diane Stein. “Today we must be ever watchful that this is never allowed to happen again.” [2]

While some may think that the days of picking up people off the street, from their homes or from their schools is long past, the United States allows for involuntary psychiatric examination in every state. In Florida there were almost 200,000 such examinations, known as a Baker Act, in 2017. Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals have been given the power to use law enforcement to have any man, woman or child, no matter their age, taken into custody and transported to a mental health facility against their will if they believe the person is mentally ill. This power is granted despite the fact that there is no scientific test for mental illness and mental illness labels and disorders are simply voted into existence and placed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. These disorders are nothing more than the opinion of the very same people who profit off of mental health labels. About CCHR: Initially established by the Church of Scientology and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, CCHR’s mission is to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and enact patient and consumer protections. L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, first brought psychiatric imprisonment to wide public notice: “Thousands and thousands are seized without process of law, every week, over the ‘free world’ tortured, castrated, killed. All in the name of ‘mental health,’” he wrote in March 1969. For more information visit www.cchrflorida.org.

Money Doctor Neil “Doc” Gallagher Gives Thoughts on the Defense of “Affluenza”

Money Doctor Neil Gallagher and “Affluenza” Teen Ethan Couch

The founder, president, and CEO of Gallagher Financial Group Inc. recently compared Ethan Couch’s “affluenza” defense with the mindset that retirees often have.

DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, January 29, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Money Doctor Neil Gallagher, founder, president, and CEO of Gallagher Financial Group Inc., as well as successful entrepreneur, investment counselor, and financial retirement planning specialist, recently compared Ethan Couch’s “affluenza” defense with the mindset that retirees often deal with.

For those not in the fold, Ethan Couch is known for his "affluenza" defense in his drunk driving case that killed four people and seriously injured two others. Prosecutors in the 2013 case originally sought 20 years in jail, but Couch received no prison time after his psychologist testified that Couch was a victim of "affluenza," a result of wealthy and privileged parents who never set limits for him. The decision to put him on probation for 10 years outraged victims' families and anti-drunk driving advocates. In 2015, Couch fled to Mexico with his mother, Tonya Couch. They were discovered and sent back to the US, where a Texas judge ordered nearly two years of jail time for Couch. He was released from a Texas jail this month after serving his two years.

Now, Neil Gallagher weighs in on how this mentality may be attributed to retirees. “Are retirees victims of their own ‘affluenza?’” Gallagher ponders, “For 40 years, with fat, steady paychecks, and unlimited credit card use, they bought what they wanted. Entertainment, dining, clothes, cars, and travel, with no discipline to control urges. So, at age 59, 65, or 70, it is crash time! They slam into debt and deprivation.”

Gallagher believes that restraining oneself earlier in life is the key to success and longevity money-wise. “Workers in their 20s, 30s, 40s, should ask: Can I afford this? Can I really afford this?” Gallagher states, “Sometimes, the correct answer is no. Retirement is often viewed as a period when people can finally get to all the things they didn’t have time for previously, but not anymore.”

Recently, Americans have been cutting back on expenses traditionally associated with retirement, like entertainment and travel, according to data from retirement planning product provider Global Atlantic Financial Group. Retirees are spending 29% less on entertainment, 24% less on dining out, 18% less on travel, and 23% less on mortgage payments. Over half of those surveyed (55%) admitted to feeling regret over the way they handled their retirement planning. This is particularly true for women, the survey states.

“We are witnessing something similar to an epidemic in the United States,” concludes Gallagher, “maybe it’s a case of aging ‘affluenza.’”

Neil Gallagher has worked in the financial field for more than two decades, managing over one billion in assets and serving over one thousand clients world-wide. In addition, he also hosts weekly radio programs covering financial communication, the psychology of investing, wealth creation, family enrichment, and the importance of estate planning. He was recently awarded the Best of Los Angeles Award – “Best Financial Planner – 2018”, according to Aurora DeRose, award coordinator for the Best of Los Angeles Award community.

Walid Phares Meets with Polish Officials on the Plight of Middle East Christians

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, January 24, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — On November 26th, 2018, advisor to the American Mideast Coalition for Democracy, Dr. Walid Phares met with a Polish delegation led by Minister Beata Kempa and Ambassador Piotr Wilczek. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss US and European policies that support and protect persecuted Christians and other minorities in the Greater Middle East. During their visit to the United States, the Polish delegation met with several US officials including Ambassador Sam Brownback, United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom.

Phares, a former advisor to Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Mitt Romney on foreign affairs, shared his assessment of the situation of Christian and minority communities in the region who have been subject to oppression and persecution, including those in Iraq and Syria. He explained that Christians in the Middle East are divided into two communities: those living in geographic enclaves, like the Nineveh Valley in Iraq and Khabur plain in Syria, and those living as minorities within large cities or Muslim-majority areas. Phares suggested, and Minister Kempa agreed, that Western support for these endangered groups of Christians should adapt to their geopolitical realities. Countries providing aid to these communities should work with the national governments to protect the status of minority communities within their cities and villages and enable the groups to protect themselves when they live in geographical areas threatened by terror attacks.

The Minister agreed with Phares' assessment and offered her assessment based on her experience working to provide aid to Christians in the Middle East. Minister Kempa committed to muster support in Poland and throughout Europe for the protection of human rights of minority communities in coordination with the United States.

Phares stated, “There are minority communities with different geopolitical and legal statuses. While there are certainly challenges faced by most Christian groups in the region, the Christian and Yazidi communities in Iraq and Syria have been the most threatened with mass killing and ethnic cleansing. I am glad that the UN and later the United States designated ISIS’ actions as ‘genocide’ as I have recommended since 2014.”

He added, “Poland, and other European countries, are instrumental in helping, not only by raising the issue internationally, but also by assisting ground missions alongside the United States to provide direct protection to these persecuted groups.”

Will new law help keep our communities safer?

Too many inmates have left prison a “better criminal” than when they entered, due to the severe lack of vocational and education programs

“There is no person alive who cannot make a new beginning.”

— L. Ron Hubbard, The Way to Happiness

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, UNITED STATES, January 24, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Editorial written by John Stanard

A new era has emerged for criminal justice by the recent signing into law of the criminal justice bill called the FIRST STEP Act. With this new law, which implements key vocational and educational programs for inmates in federal prisons, we hope that the high rate of inmates returning to prison across the country will be improved.

For years there has been controversy over the fact that inmates in detention facilities and federal prisons do not have access to rehabilitative programs. Our communities are endangered when offenders are released with little or no vocational skills or the ability to earn a living. Often times an incarcerated person serves time and is released a “better criminal” than when he or she entered. We all benefit when a returning citizen re-enters society with life skills enabling him or her to be a productive citizen.

Washington, DC, like many areas in the country, suffers from a high rate of incarcerated persons returning to prison within a few years. Up to 75% of offenders were rearrested within 5 years according to a 2014 Bureau of Justice Statistics study which covered 30 states. [1] Many people working in the criminal justice field believe that it will take a cooperative effort between government, nonprofit and faith-based organizations to effect real change.

Perhaps, The FIRST STEP Act, signed into law by President Trump on Friday, December 21st 2018, which seeks to provide the many needed programs to federal prisoners to reduce the risk of recidivism, will begin this new change.
These programs are based on the belief that all men have value and that anyone can turn their lives around and make a better life.

As the National Director for Social Betterment Policy and Programs for the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office, and national criminal justice reform advocate, I feel that the FIRST STEP Act is a move in the right direction. Our criminal justice system needs to adopt positive approaches towards those who have been imprisoned. We need to make available useful programs that provide training and skills to allow individuals to lead productive lives post-incarceration. The FIRST STEP Act provides funding for such programming as well as a mechanism to reward those who take advantage of that programming.

The programs provided for in the FIRST STEP Act provide the services that prisoners need in order to make the changes and gain the skills they need to become better prepared for reentry as successful and contributing members of society. These services can range from literacy training and general education to specific job training and programs to improve their outlook on living productive lives. One such program which has been active both nationally and internationally is Criminon, www.Criminon.org, an international non-profit dedicated to the rehabilitation of criminals through a suite of secular educational life skills programs based on the works of author, humanitarian and philanthropist, L. Ron Hubbard.

Matt Robinson, president of Criminon New Life DC said that their work in the Washington, DC, Detention Facility over the last 15 years has been rewarding and successes from those incarcerated are very encouraging. One participant recently told them, for example, that since he started the Criminon program, ‘It has elevated my thinking. I no longer place the blame on others for the wrong that went on [in] my life. I no longer run from reality. I embrace it and look for solutions to fix the situation.’”

The motto of Criminon is taken from the book The Way to Happiness, (www.thewaytohappiness.org) by L. Ron Hubbard, in which he writes, “There is no person alive who cannot make a new beginning.” Mr. Hubbard also stated that, “A criminal career always begins at the moment when the criminal-to-be loses his self-respect,” and that is what Criminon addresses with this program.

Criminon is supported by the Church of Scientology and its parishioners, and has gotten 23,000 inmates through the program in 23 countries across the globe.

We will all be hoping for real change in the criminal justice field to ensure that the recidivism rates (when a convicted criminal reoffends) are reversed and more inmates are honestly rehabilitated.

New Film on Censorship and the 60s Counterculture to Premiere at Santa Fe Film Festival: Barney’s Wall

“It is a symphony… an epic novel on a wall”—WALL STREET JOURNAL

“In that wall is Samuel Beckett, Henry Miller, Allen Ginsberg, Octavio Paz, Malcolm X, Jack Kerouac, Marguerite Duras, Hubert Selby, Jr., William S. Burroughs.”—NEW REPUBLIC

Racism. War. Censorship. Rage. Rebellion. The Sixties are back. Rejoin the Underground.

The darkness of the current political and cultural landscape makes our film timely and relevant.”

— Sandy Gotham Meehan, Producer/ Director

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO, USA, January 23, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — A timely new feature documentary, BARNEY'S WALL: Portrait of a Game Changer, premieres at the Santa Fe Film Festival on February 14, 2019, at 6:00pm. The film probes the lasting political and cultural impact of BARNEY ROSSET, radical Grove Press publisher, free-speech warrior and political activist, one of the most influential cultural impresarios of the last half of the 20th century. Rosset’s fierce mid-century battles against literary censorship, government surveillance, racial bigotry and the Vietnam war blasted open America’s conservative culture and birthed the 60s counter-culture rebellion, paving the way to today’s unfettered artistic expression.

In an era that is facing social and political upheavals similar to the 50s and 60s, the film is meant to underline the fragility of our First Amendment rights and civil liberties.

The film makes the case that Rosset’s unflagging battles against inequality and an intolerant culture make him a contemporary model for today’s political and cultural activists who seek to keep the country open and the First Amendment intact. Perhaps the closest equivalent today of Rosset’s feisty, abrasive, principled and visionary politics is Bernie Sanders.

Through vast archival footage and incisive commentary from major cultural figures, the film traces Rosset’s lifetime battle to allow all Americans to read, hear and see what the Constitution demands.

An impetuous and fiercely independent outsider, Rosset’s almost mystical belief in the sacredness of the First Amendment fueled his six years of ferocious court battles against mid-century Congressional ‘obscenity’ laws, now largely forgotten, before winning a landmark Supreme Court decision outlawing government censorship. Freed to publish without restraint, Rosset brought the reading public the ‘outliers’ of the era— previously banned authors including D.H. Lawrence, Henry Miller and William S. Burroughs and the now canonical Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Jean Genet, Jack Kerouac, among myriad others.

Rosset’s commitment to civil rights drove him to publish Malcolm X, Che Guevara, Ho Chi Minh and Frantz Fanon, and to produce the film “Strange Victory”, which equated America’s Jim Crow south with European fascism.

Rosset left behind a wall of his memories, encapsulated in intricate vignettes embedded into a 15’ x 22’ wall of his East Village loft. The film uses the vignettes as portals into the formative influences that drove a rebel, war photographer, filmmaker and publisher to an enduring defense of freedom of expression. The loft and the wall have been destroyed by real estate developers undertaking the gentrification of the Lower East Side of NYC. The film is the only record of both.

The documentary has been privately screened at major cultural venues in New York City, San Francisco and Paris. Two successful Kickstarters helped fund production of the film.

Produced by FoxHog Productions, NYC, an independent media company that produces and invests in films and video about artists and thinkers whose provocative work alters the cultural and intellectual status quo.

Directed by Sandy Gotham Meehan and Williams Cole, cinematography by David Leitner, edited by Kasia Plazinska.

Surge in Baker Acts Prompts Mental Health Watchdog to Take Action

With the total number of involuntary examinations more than doubling over the past 16 years, CCHR is on crusade to protect citizens from human rights abuse.

In order to take a person into custody under a Baker Act there are three criteria that must be legally met, yet it is common knowledge that this is not always done and this is a rights violation.”

— Diane Stein, President CCHR Florida

CLEARWATER, FL, USA, January 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Florida chapter of the international mental health watchdog, Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), is concerned over the large number of individuals being sent annually for involuntary psychiatric examinations, called a Baker Act, in light of the fact that it is known a percentage of these Baker Acts are illegal due to a failure to meet the criteria to take a person into custody.

The Baker Act allows for a person of any age to be taken into custody and transported to a psychiatric receiving facility for examination and the most recent statistics released by the Baker Act Reporting Center, show that there were over 199,000 involuntary psychiatric examinations initiated in Florida during 2017 including over 32,000 children. [1]

In order to take a person into custody under a Baker Act there are three criteria that must be legally met yet, it is common knowledge that this is not always done and it was disclosed during a meeting of the Baker Act Task Force in 2017 that 30 percent of the Baker Acts initiated on children in Pinellas County did not meet the criteria. This alarming fact is one reason CCHR believes the Baker Act needs to be reformed so that parents and guardians are brought into the process before a child is put through the trauma of a Baker Act in an effort to reduce illegal Baker Acting of minors. [2]

“The Baker Act is being abused and is being used incorrectly on people of all ages,” stated Diane Stein, President CCHR Florida. “CCHR receives too many calls on a weekly basis from families whose loved one was illegally taken into custody and this abuse must end.”

In the example of minors, parents and legal guardians are being left out of the process only finding out that their child has been Baker Acted after initiation and usually after the child has been transported by law enforcement to a psychiatric facility. CCHR believes that this is a rights violation, a belief that is shared by Sheriffs, Police Chiefs and even School Districts across Florida.

Since 2017, CCHR has been working to educate those granted the power to initiate a Baker Act on a child on why a parent or guardian should be brought into the process before initiation resulting in county and city level policy changes to contact the parents of a child before initiating a Baker Act.

Those interested in learning more about CCHR’s campaign to protect children from abusive Baker Acting are encouraged to call 800-782-2878.

Restoring Human Rights Dignity in the Field of Mental Health

According to U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Office of Inspector General, Florida was second only to New York for Medicaid fraud recoveries in 2016.

Florida needs an effective system to verify mental health billing validity before heeding calls to funnel more money into a fraudulent system.”

— Diane Stein, President CCHR Florida

CLEARWATER, FL, USA, January 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — As one of the top states for fraud, Florida remains a hot bed for health care fraud with South Florida leading the region for such cases for the past 20 years. In 2018, Sam Konell, a longtime liaison between mental health clinics and Miami-Dade’s criminal court, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for funneling state-court defendants to a corrupt clinic. This one case cost taxpayers an estimated $25 million. [1]

Due to the tens of millions of dollars in fraud, the Florida chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is warning lawmakers of the need for an effective system to verify mental health billing validity before heeding calls to funnel more money into a fraudulent system.

“Florida’s well documented history of health care fraud, including that of mental health, necessitates a better system for detecting and preventing fraud,” said Diane Stein, President of CCHR Florida. “Millions of dollars are stolen from taxpayers and some of our most vulnerable citizens are abused in this epidemic of insurance billing fraud.”

South Florida isn’t the only problem area in the state. Shawn Thorpe, President of Coastal Bay Behavioral Health in Jacksonville, faced charges for $1.4 million in Medicaid fraud in 2017 for a scheme created when he partnered with Ruben McLain, a man who secretly operated under a false name since he was already banned from Medicaid remuneration due to earlier fraud crimes. Thorpe and McLain both plead guilty. [2][3]

Florida’s involuntary examination law is another example of potential fraud given the fact that a person sent for examination, known as a Baker Act, can be held for up to 72 hours before it is determined whether they even met the criteria for incarceration in the first place and the psychiatric facility still bills insurance for the stay. There were more than 199,000 Baker Act initiations in Florida during fiscal year 2016/2017 and with a reported average length of stay at 4.5 days the potential for abusive use and fraudulent billing of Baker Acts is very real.[4][5]

The gray area of what constitutes mental illness and the vulnerability of mental health patients appears to contribute to the ease with which fraud can be committed. As a prime example the manual psychiatrists use, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, grows every year with new disorders that are largely voted into existence by popular opinion and void of any scientific basis yet these “disorders” all come with an insurance billing code so that the psychiatrist can label a person and get paid for controversial “mental illnesses” such as Caffeine Intoxication Disorder.[6][7]

“Without a better system for detecting psychiatric insurance billing fraud Florida will see the epidemic continue and the taxpayer will foot the bill,” said Stein.

For more information visit www.cchrflorida.org

The Gandhi Murder Shall not be released in India

When British release Indian campaigner Mohandas Gandhi from prison

The producers of The Gandhi Murder have decided against releasing the movie in India, citing security concerns.

I understand it is election year, but we are making a movie that represents the truth, without taking any sides. Give us a break.”

— Pankaj Sehgal – Director

NY, –, USA, January 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — “Our Co-Producer Ms. Lakshmi Iyer has been threatened, forcing her to change her residence twice in the last six months, a close tab is being maintained on the movements of the Co-Director Mr. Pankaj Sehgal, who has been receiving threats on his personal mobile, from callers with hidden ID. One of the main actors is not even answering interview requests,” says Dr. Moobi Alwright, a company senior executive based out of Dubai.

“It is shocking that without even seeing the movie, people have made their own assessment of whether it is pro or anti-incumbency, without the consideration that this is a privately produced film with the producers having no link with any political party”, says Sehgal, the co-director and one of the production managers of Nugen Media. “I understand it is election year, but we are making a movie that represents the truth, without taking any sides. Give us a break.”

Another member of the production team shifted his residence from Chennai to Mumbai, and is now in the process of leaving the country.

“It is not a question of standing up to what you believe in,” says Dr. Moobi. “It is a question of standing up to a ghost warfare, where you don’t really know who your enemy is, and what kind of threat it is. You want to release a strong content based on true events, and suddenly unchartered calls and threats follow. We are making a film on Mahatma Gandhi’s murder. We are not Mahatma Gandhi, who will stand up to these type of senseless attacks.”

Dr. Moobi further elaborated “From getting the censor clearance to safety and security of the Nugen Media team in India, it has simply been a nightmare, and we realize now it is simply not worth it. When India is mature enough for sensible films, the people will act like it. For now, they can enjoy the movie on digital network, as and when it becomes available”.

The Gandhi Murder’, starring Stephen Lang, Luke Pasqualino, Om Puri and Vinnie Jones, covers in depth the tumultuous last days in the life of Mahatma Gandhi that eventually led to his assassination on 30th January, 1948. The movie releases worldwide on 30th January, 2019.
