Super Attorney, Tom Girardi, On What Risks You Face as a Pedestrian in Los Angeles

Super Attorney, Tom Girardi.

By Tom Girardi

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, May 3, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ —

What risks do you face as a pedestrian in Los Angeles?

Between 2015 and 2017, there was an 80 percent increase in pedestrian deaths in Los Angeles, according to new data. The data collection is part of Mayor Garcetti's 2015 initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities by 2025. Although pedestrians make up only 8 percent of traffic collisions in L.A., the pedestrians involved make up 44 percent of the deaths, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Here are some things you can do to stay safe while you are walking:

Limit distractions: There are so many distractions on the road. All that you can do it limit your own distractions. Reading headlines or checking Instagram on your walk is clearly not as important as your life, yet we all seem to forget this. Walking in Los Angeles is just about the most dangerous thing you do, so put your phone away for this short period of time.

Always take the safest route: Although it may be tempting to take short-cuts, choose the walking path that follows sidewalks and intersections. Drivers are most likely to see you in those common pedestrian areas.

Don't make assumptions about drivers: One of the most dangerous things a pedestrian can do is assume where a car is going. Drivers are known to make split-second decisions based on traffic, their GPS devices, or the decisions of other drivers.

Do your part to stay safe as a pedestrian. If you have been involved in an accident or have a legal matter you would like to discuss with an attorney from our firm, please contact us by visiting www.girardikeese.com or call 800-401-4530

Tom Girardi, Super Attorney

https://www.tomgirardi.com/

With nearly fifty years of experience representing victims, Girardi has obtained numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements, handling claims involving wrongful death, commercial litigation, products liability, bad faith insurance, and toxic torts. Thomas Vincent Girardi is a founding partner of Girardi & Keese, a downtown Los Angeles law firm. In 1970, Girardi became the first attorney in the state of California to win a $1 million-plus award for a medical malpractice case. Girardi has handled major cases against the former Lockheed Corp (now the Lockheed Martin Corp.), Pacific Gas & Electric Co, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and Hollywood's seven major movie studios.

In 2003, he received the most prestigious honor of being inducted into the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame by the California State Bar. Mr. Girardi is a Member of the Board of Directors and former President of the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only worldwide organization, limited to 500 trial lawyers. Mr. Girardi is also the first trial lawyer to be appointed to the California Judicial Council, the policymaking body of the state courts.

Albeit, one of the most influential lawyers of our time, Girardi amorously sites Perry Mason as one of his earliest childhood law inspirations. “He was a lawyer on television, 7pm on Saturday night and I would watch that show every Saturday,” states Girardi.

In one of Girardi’s better-known cases against Pacific Gas & Electric, the utility company agreed to pay $333 million to 650 residents of the desert community of Hinkley, California. The residents blamed incidents of cancer and other diseases on contaminated water leaked from a gas pumping station. This case was the inspiration for the film Erin Brockovich starring Julia Roberts.

NEW YORK CITY, NY, UNITED STATES, May 3, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Due to the lockdown situation in New York City the 11th edition of the NYC Independent Film Festival will go digital. That wil happen in the first week of June, from June 1 to June 7. Brand new films and interviews with filmmakers will be streamed, following a specific time table, which will be published on the festival website soon.

For a long time the organizers hoped to be able to organise the New York City Independent Film Festival at its traditional venue the Producers Club on 44th Street in Manhattan. But it turned out the Corona crisis will last much longer than foreseen and all the uncertainty surrounding it may cause filmmakers to rethink their travel plans and people from New York to rethink their attendance to the festival.

,,That's why we have decided to turn to a complete digital festival," says Dennis Cieri, founder of the NYC Independent Film Festival. ,,We were granted permission by many filmmakers to stream their film on a special website."

The films will be streamed once from June 1st to June 7th 2020. The screening will be on Bingewave following a schedule that is published on the festival website. Bingewave is a pop-up theater model of a website where annually thousands of films are being released. Turning your home space into a movie venue.

Among the films there will also numerous interviews with film directors and producers from around the world to offer the Q&A's that make the festival famous and loved for.

Every year there are hundreds of international filmmakers who contribute to the festival. This year European filmmakers have a big part in that. Here are some of the titles of their films that you will be able to see at the NYC Independent Film Festival.

TENS OF THOUSANDS OF “WET MARKETS” EXIST IN THE UNITED STATES. NOT JUST CHINA

Panel of experts on the front lines discussing public health dangers of wet markets.

Legal expert Carissa Kranz sounds the alarm about the existence of wet markets located across the U.S. — just like the one that caused COVID19 in Wuhan, China.

Unregulated slaughterhouses are hotbeds for deadly human contagion. While NY is the epicenter for COVID-19, it can also be the launching pad for the next viral attack.”

— Carissa Kranz, Esq., Super Lawyer & Founder of BeVeg Vegan Certification

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, May 2, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — As we race for a vaccine and practice unprecedented social distancing, the question as to how to prevent future pandemics remains. COVID-19 was born in a wet market in China. A wet market is another word for an unregulated street slaughterhouse that is wet with blood, urine, guts, feces, and other bodily fluid spillovers as animals sit alive in cages to be purchased and slaughtered on scene in close proximity to other species of animals and humans.

Expert consensus is wet markets are a grave danger to global public health and a ticking time bomb for the next plague. “Whenever wild, farmed, domestic, and companion animals are crammed together in close quarters for slaughter, there is a high risk of pathogens jumping from one species to the next,” says legal expert Carissa Kranz. “The world is up in arms over China’s wet markets, but what about the tens of thousands of wet markets in operation today in the United States?” On behalf of New York residents, attorney Kranz filed a legal petition for rulemaking in accordance with a proposed NY senate bill addressing the State Administrative Procedure Act to call upon lawmakers to immediately shut down the 80-90 live animal wet markets in operation today in New York.

"Unregulated slaughterhouses are hotbeds for deadly human contagion. While NY is the epicenter for COVID-19, it can also be the launching pad for the next viral attack.” As we experience an unprecedented global health and financial crisis legislators on both sides of the isle are calling upon the "WHO" to ban these wet markets across the world, which they say are proven breeding grounds for virulent zoonotic outbreaks that morph into deadly human pandemics. Besides COVID, other deadly human pandemics traced back to wet markets include SARS and MERs. In fact, the CDC says 3 out of 4 human viruses are of animal origin.

In an urgent plea to the WHO to immediately ban all wet markets globally, Lindsey Graham and Cory Booker together write: “As this pandemic continues to threaten the lives of millions, pushes healthcare systems to the breaking point, and devastates economies around the world, it is imperative that we all take action as a global community to protect public health.”

But what about the tens of thousands of wet markets happening right here, right now, on US soil? Attorney Kranz says that while a global ban will be popular and commendable, it will be nearly impossible to enforce. However, “a ban of all live animal wet markets on US soil can be legally enforced, and we should do what is within our power. If a bipartisan Congress is united on the public health risk of these markets and cause of the virus, why are these wet markets still open and in operation in America?” Attorney Kranz urges lawmakers to take immediate action to exercise pandemic prevention hygiene before it is too late and more human lives are destroyed. “This is a chance for the United States to lead the WHO by example as lawmakers further their agenda for a ceremonial global ban of these markets.”

History has proven that global public health and safety are at risk when humans exploit animals for meat. Just consider the following deadly viral global pandemics of animal origin that have collectively killed hundreds of millions of people, if not more.

–COVID-19, SARS, and MERS are all traced to live animal wet markets.
–Ebola is connected to the consumption of the meat of wild animals.
–E-coli and salmonella are connected to finding feces in food. A Consumer Report found that 100% of the hundreds of pounds of beef examined contained fecal matter.
–Swine flu strains repeatedly develop during the raising and slaughter of pigs for meat.
–Mad cow disease is a fatal disease which destroys our brain and spinal cord.
–Avian flu repeatedly develops from the raising and killing birds for meat.
–Spanish flu, which killed 50-100 million people, and affected 500 million, or one-third of the world’s population, was an avian flu from an animal farm in Kansas.
–HIV virus was introduced as a deadly human to human virus after humans came into contact with contaminated Chimpanzee blood as humans hunted them for meat.
–Hepatitis E is contracted by eating undercooked meat.
–The measles (MeV), infects 30 million people annually, and kills close to 200,000 globally, is traced to early civilization in the middle east when cattle was farmed in close proximity to humans.
–Bubonic plague, or Black Death, is from eating animals infected by a deadly bacteria carried by fleas, or come into close contact with their bodily fluids.
–Smallpox has increasing evidence from DNA and RNA sequencing that it originated as cowpox and mutated to evolve to what we call smallpox. It is estimated that the smallpox killed 300 million people in the twentieth century.
–Malaria is said to have originated in humans from chicken farming before mosquitos became carriers to keep the virus alive.
–Nipah Virus (NiV) is transmitted through contaminated food. Its origin is traced to pigs, and jumped to humans through sick pigs or close contact with their contaminated tissues.
–Listeria infection is a food borne bacterial illness most commonly caused by eating improperly processed deli meats and unpasteurized dairy products. Notably, processed meat is a group 1 carcinogen, according to the World Health Organization.
–Domestication of the horse led to the common cold virus that still plagues humankind.
–Domestication of chickens gave humans chickenpox, shingles, and various strains of the bird flu.
–Introduction of livestock cattle is responsible for the emergence of measles, smallpox, and tuberculosis.

The petition for rulemaking was filed based on a proposed NY Senate bill, which requires an agency response with 100 NY resident signatures. The petition collected about forty thousand signatures. To date, there is no response by lawmakers. The petition was filed on behalf of the public by the Law Offices of Carissa Kranz, a Palm Beach Gardens personal injury law firm. “Injured clients include people and animals. Live animal wet markets cause injury to both. Not only is it cruel and inhumane, it’s a public health crisis that will likely lead to the next pandemic,” says attorney Kranz. The Petition for rulemaking was a CBS exclusive interview and then further discussed on a newly launched digital media show — Laws THAT Matter — hosted by attorney Kranz.

The Laws THAT Matter show airs live every Wednesday at 12p EST / 9a PST on Jane Unchained News Network. The show logo is stamped in the lower third with the BeVeg certified vegan symbol. The former political prisoners caution that Iranian regime is weaponizing the global corona pandemic to press for appeasement measures and sanctions relief.”

— Dr. Majid Sadeghpour

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, May 1, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — In a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, 60 former Iran political prisoners living in the United States, expressed grave concern for all prisoners in Iran, particularly that of political prisoners who are at severe risk of infection and death due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Iranian regime’s systemic mishandling of the health crisis.
Citing reports from the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the letter warns that Iranian regime has grossly misreported COVID-19 cases and associated deaths in Iran. The letter also charges, “Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and its affiliates have attacked, wounded and killed dozens of prisoners, many of whom are prisoners of conscience.”
The former political prisoners caution that Iranian regime is weaponizing the global corona pandemic, “to press for appeasement measures and sanctions relief” just as it uses Iranian people’s wealth to prop up regional terrorist proxies.
Organization of Iranian American Communities (OIAC) agrees with this assessment and the letter’s request that the United States, “continue the maximum pressure policy on the regime and its regional proxies.” We join these Iranian American community members in calling on the President to work with U.S. allies to demand, “the immediate release of the thousands of political prisoners,” being unjustly incarcerated in Iran.

166 prominent Iranian American medical professionals and health workers send a letter to President Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, April 12, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Organization of Iranian American Communities (OIAC) praises Clinicians for a Free Iran (CFFI) for their letter to President Donald Trump highlighting Iran’s sinister plan to leverage COVID-19 pandemic to enrich and empower the regime. More than 160 prominent medical professionals, health workers, and scholars, many of whom are on the frontline of the battle against this global pandemic, have raised deep concerns that regime foreign minister Javad Zarif is portraying his regime as a “victim ” of U.S. sanctions.

CFFI Chair, Dr. Ashraf Zadshir, a specialist in infectious diseases and Founding Director of the Department of Residency at Borrego Health in Southern California added that, “both the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and President Hassan Rouhani should be held accountable for expelling Doctors Without Borders team from Iran and refusing U.S. offers of humanitarian assistance, the regime is blaming the pandemic on the U.S. sanctions to cover up its denial, mismanagement, and subsequent embezzlement of COVID-19 aid sent by the international community.”

According to CFFI President, Dr. Firouz Daneshgari, a senior surgeon at the Case Western Reserve University and the honorary president of the International Medical Committee, “the Iranian regime is campaigning, not to help the people of Iran, but to exploit the loss of thousands of Iranian lives due to COVID-19 for its sinister agenda, to get the sanctions lifted by the United States and the International community.“ The CFFI letter reiterates a number of important facts also outlined in a joint statement by Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and Representative Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.), Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. In the letter, these lawmakers correctly charged that Iranian regime, “has diverted medical equipment, declined U.S. and other assistance, and continued to support dangerous terrorists around the world even in the midst of this crisis.”

OIAC concurs with the CFFI that, “The much-needed humanitarian aid should only be provided directly to the people of Iran and not the regime and its IRGC, and Tehran must be compelled to accept such humanitarian aid.” We further join the CFFI signatories in asking U.S. government, “to maintain the maximum pressure on the regime while offering direct aid to the people of Iran.”

WASHINGTON, DC, U.S.A, May 1, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Iranian American Community of Texas (IAC-TX) and Iranian-American Community of North Texas (IACNT), members of Organization of Iranian American Communities (OIAC) commend the recent statement by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, for applauding the Administration’s move to invoke the snapback mechanism defined in the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.

During a U.S. Senate policy briefing on Iran, held on March 12, 2020, with strong bi-partisan Senate support and representation from the Iranian-American leaders all across America, including Texas, Senator Cruz “called upon President Trump to invoke snapback sanctions under the Iran Deal.”

Our entire network, particularly the IAC-TX, and IACNT, are encouraged by Senator Cruz’s remarks on standing “with the men and women of Iran in their fight against” the “cruel, oppressive, murderous tyrants” in Iran. Having been a strong advocate for “applying a maximum pressure campaign against the Iranian regime, to hold them accountable for their human rights abuses and once and for all end their reign of terror,” Senator Cruz sets the correct tone in dealing with the Mullahs of Iran.

As a leading voice in the Senate, Senator Cruz has been on the forefront of correctly identifying what he calls the threat of a nuclear Iran as the single greatest national security threat facing the United States and the global community. We applaud his efforts to end oil and nuclear waivers, and to invoke the U.N. snapback mechanism to restore international sanctions on the Iranian regime. We commend Senator Cruz for being a strong advocate for applying maximum pressure campaign against the Mullahs while holding them accountable for their human rights abuses and reign of terror.

Let us not forget how the people of Iran chanted across 200 cities last November saying, “death to the dictatorship” and “our enemy is here, they [regime] lie when they say it is America.” The people of Iran deserve to have a free country, and they deserve a bi-partisan voice in their support. A free Iran is the best guarantee to end decades of the global threat of Islamic fundamentalism, and its epicenter in Tehran.

Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici Awarded Friend of CACFP Award

Kati Wagner, NCA Board President, presents Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici with the 2020 Friend of CACFP Award.

AUSTIN, TX, USA, May 1, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The National CACFP Sponsors Association's (NCA) Friend of CACFP Award honors and recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to supporting and improving the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) through leadership and initiative. In the past, this award has been presented to Congressman Bobby Scott, Congressman James McGovern, Senator Robert Casey, Representative Marcia Fudge, Senator Debbie Stabenow and Senator Amy Klobuchar. These individuals have made significant and demonstrable contributions to the CACFP through advocacy, legislation, education or professional endeavors that exemplify a positive impact or advancement of the national child nutrition programs.

During her years of service, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici has focused on Child Nutrition Reauthorization for the CACFP, strengthening public education, equity in education, policy and funding to support student success, and co-founding the bi-partisan Congressional STEAM Caucus. Congresswoman Bonamici currently serves as a leader on the Education and Labor committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Human Services. In Congress, she is fighting for an equitable economy that gives everyone the opportunity to succeed. In 2015, Congresswoman Bonamici introduced The Early Childhood Nutrition Improvement Act for Child Nutrition Reauthorization (CNR) and is again dedicating her time to what will best benefit the children and the food program. Her approach has been refreshingly straight forward and includes many no cost additions to CNR with a remarkable knowledge of the CACFP.

NCA appreciates Congresswoman Bonamici’s diligent, lifetime work to expand and protect child nutrition programs in our country. We recognize the challenges she has undertaken to push for changes in hunger relief programs and food security for our nation’s children and elderly. We thank Congresswoman Bonamici for her work and honor her with the 2020 Friend of CACFP Award.

Congresswoman Bonamici will be presented with the award at the National Child Nutrition Conference in Atlanta, GA, April 14-16, 2020 where 1,700 members of the child nutrition community will gather for an incredible few days of training. Attendees will choose from over 150 workshops and training programs, network with colleagues from across the country, attend off-site excursions, and be able to visit with more than 50 exhibitors to learn about products to assist their work in CACFP. For 34 years the National CACFP Sponsors Association has offered this conference as an unparalleled training, education and networking opportunity specific to the child nutrition community.

Since 1986, the NCA is the leading national organization for sponsors who administer the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). We provide education and support to thousands of members in the CACFP community and to sponsors of all sizes from across the country. We strive to improve communication between families, caregivers, sponsors and their supervising government agencies.
